Zephyr is one of the characters in UFO Epsilon.

Zephyr is impulsive and enigmatic. They live by themselves on a mostly desolate planet and even though they wouldn’t be able to name their motivation, they feel they need to remain there. Most of the time they are aloof and don’t seem all there but they do have the occasional moment of clarity and only then do they seem aware of the state they’re in. They are also prone to mood swings and sudden bouts of violence.

History

Zephyr has very little recollection of their past. They woke up on the planet Ibreron with only fuzzy images of what happened beforehand. They had no idea how they had gotten there and realized they were missing their right arm below the elbow, which had been haphazardly bandaged up. They had been left with a working ship, or at least no one showed up to claim it, but their instinct told them to remain on the planet and wait for something… though they have no idea what.

Spoiler

Zephyr is actually Javelin — sort of.

After Javelin left Dash (as an infant) and Zue on Earth, he was pursued by Intergalactic Unity Invasive Inspections officers for ignoring the proper procedures for interplanetary visits. Although he attempted to evade capture, the ship he was using was too outdated to outrun more modern ships.

After being captured, Terrena Corp quickly took custody of him, seeing an opportunity that a Lacrosian prisoner presented to them. They circumvented any legal proceedings since Javelin had no identity outside of Lacrosa , it being so isolated from the rest of the galaxy. Therefore it was easy for him to “disappear.”

With Javelin in their possession, Terrena Corp began doing experiments with “consciousness digitization” in an effort to see if they could control Javelin by implanting the consciousness of someone loyal and obedient to the corporation into his brain via a computer chip. Terrena seeks to gain the elemental powers of Lacrosians in any way possible in order to use them to re-cultivate their dying planet as well as possibly terraform other uninhabitable planets. Because Lacrosa refuses to work with them on a political level, they look into more unethical methods of control.

A chip was implanted in Javelin’s head and it contained the consciousness of a willing participant of the experiment named Calesse, one of the scientists. However, with Javelin’s consciousness still present, he fought against control and ended up being an incoherent mess. Terrena kept him imprisoned and alive to record the effects of the experiment over time — curious if one consciousness would overtake the other or if he would end up braindead.
